A news story in a newspaper. A woman in a swimming pool. A hotel lost at the end of the road.
A small casino in the heart of summer and the Cantal. The burning water of a fountain... How chance made the destiny of a book.

Laurence Graissac grew up alongside her brother, Thierry, who always takes a malicious pleasure in harassing and humiliating her. From the sinister pavilion of her childhood in Saint-Flour, she keeps raw wounds as signs of a life swept by fate. But Laurence has every intention of becoming the woman she never allowed herself to be, whatever the price she has to pay. The day the discreet Dr. Bashert, a gambling addict, crosses her path, the situation could finally change...

A psychological thriller of rare intensity, Five Burnt Cards will plunge you into the heart of mental manipulation.
