Olivier Mak-Bouchard, The Mistral’s Saying

A first novel that tells the universal Provence.

After a night of violent thunderstorm, a man sees Mr. Sécaillat, the old farmer next door, knocking at his door. What could have driven this gruff and secretive neighbor to come? The man answers him as he leads him into their adjoining field: washed away by rain and waterlogged earth, a section of an old dry stone wall has collapsed. In the midst of the rubble, mysterious pieces of pottery have appeared in places. Intrigued by their discovery, the two men decide to conduct a clandestine search, without suspecting that it will turn their lives upside down...
If it feeds on the works of Giono and Bosco, The Mistral’s Saying is not a book like the others. It is the beginning of a journey, a novel about friendship, a tale about refusal to forget, a window quietly open on the lands of Provence, a telescope magnetized by the gods...
