Open Her Heart is an outstanding debut novel thanks to its power and its unflinching truths. Grace battles death and love, loneliness.

Located in a little industrial town in Quebec during the 90’s, Open Her Heart is an autobiographical novel. It tells the story of a difficult friendship between two girls connected by the diseases they suffered and the operations they underwent during early childhood. One is severely cross-eyed and the other has a heart condition. The first girl, mistrustful, feels that something’s wrong with her, and the second one is a child beloved by everyone. One becomes a writer, and the other dies at 18 years old, during the operation which was supposed to save her life.
